Over the years, I've noticed that most rug owners don't know what services are even available to them. They bring in a rug for cleaning and leave not realizing it also needed fringe work, or that a faded area could have been restored. This guide is meant to change that.
There's more to rug care than a basic wash. Here's a plain-English breakdown of every service we offer — and how to know if your rug needs it.
Hand Washing
Most CommonOur core service. Every rug we clean is hand washed individually — never run through a machine or cleaned in place with a steam wand. Hand washing is the only method that's truly safe for the natural fibers, hand-knotted construction, and vegetable or chrome dyes found in fine oriental rugs. We recommend cleaning every 2–3 years for rugs in regular use, or sooner if there's been a spill or pet accident.
Fringe Cleaning & Repair
Often NeededFringe is the most vulnerable part of any oriental rug. It gets walked on, vacuumed incorrectly, and often turns gray or brown long before the rest of the rug looks dirty. We clean fringe as part of every wash, but we also offer fringe repair — re-knotting loose or missing fringe, and replacing fringe that's beyond saving. Neglected fringe can unravel into the rug body itself, so it's worth addressing early.
Rug Repair & Re-Weaving
Specialty ServiceHoles, tears, worn areas, and unraveling edges are all repairable by hand. Re-weaving is painstaking work — we match the original wool, color, and knot style as closely as possible to make the repair invisible. Not every rug is worth repairing, and I'll always give you an honest assessment of whether the cost makes sense for your particular piece.
Moth Damage Treatment
Urgent When NeededWool moths are the silent destroyer of oriental rugs. They lay eggs in the pile, and the larvae eat the wool fibers from the base up — often going unnoticed until significant damage is done. If you see bare patches, webbing, or tiny larvae in your rug, bring it in immediately. We treat the infestation and can repair the damaged areas. We also recommend periodic inspections for rugs stored in low-traffic areas.
Pet Stain & Odor Treatment
Common RequestPet urine is one of the most damaging things that can happen to an oriental rug. The acid in urine attacks wool fibers and can permanently alter dyes if not treated quickly. Surface cleaning doesn't reach the foundation where the urine has soaked in. Our process flushes the rug thoroughly and uses enzyme-based treatments to neutralize odor at the source — not just mask it.
Color Restoration
Specialty ServiceSun fading, bleach accidents, and dye bleed from improper cleaning can all rob a rug of its original color. In some cases, color can be carefully restored by a specialist. This is delicate work that requires matching original dye lots and understanding how the rug was originally colored. We evaluate each case individually and are honest about what's achievable.
